NBA looking to launch another Esports league, this time outside of USA
NBA’s Esports plans are going overseas!
From its known personalities investing in teams, franchises looking to recruit pro-players, and even teaming up with a game publisher to launch their own Esports tournament, NBA’s head honchos are really looking into a lot of avenues to invest into Esports and this time, they set their own bar higher as plans of launching another Esports League, this time, outsideof the USA is being tackled by the world’s most popular pro Basketball league.
According to a report by CNBC, the National Basketball Asssociation is working on a bid to launch an Esports League in China, one of the biggest countries in terms of gaming revenues. The NBA is also currently enjoying a good surge of viewership for their games in China thanks to their partnership with Tencent back in 2015 which we are also assuming is one of the main factors as to why the NBA is planning to launch a competitive gaming league within China’s walls.
Although notable, this is not the first time that the NBA has launched major plans for the Esports scene as, just early this year, they have partnered with 2K Interactive, the new publisher of the NBA 2K line of video games for the upcoming NBA 2K eLeague which lets actual NBA 2K teams recruit pro players to represent their respective franchises, the tournament is still in the works though, but it is set for launch this coming 2018.
