Because, why not?

Blizzard’s biggest game at the moment might just be heading to the Nintendo Switch as suggested by Overwatch Director Jeff Kaplan, the multi-million player hit that has once surpassed other online titles such as League of Legends as being one of the most played games could be coming the Nintendo’s newest handheld hybrid, that is, if challenges when it comes to porting the software to the new hardware would be overcome by Blizzard themselves.

In a reddit AMA held about a month ago by Kaplan, he suggests that “Getting OW on the Switch is very challenging for us [Blizzard]” and this is mainly because of the difference in the set specifications in which Overwatch was built around to ensure quality gameplay performance. In an interview with Express Online, Kaplan also adds that the additional challenge involves maintaining updates for possibly 4 platforms, the PC, Xbox One, PS4 and the Switch, should it be included, although it is noted that they have already taken care of updating Overwatch for its 3 current platforms, the Xbox One, PS4, and PC with less hassle.

Still there is hope for a Nintendo Switch port, hopefully, in the near future as Kaplan hasn’t ruled out the handheld hybrid, stating that “just because we’re [Blizzard] not on a platform right now, it doesn’t mean we won’t reconsider it in the future, so we stay aware of all these things“.

The Overwatch coming to the Nintendo Switch would be an absolute treat to fans of both the game and the platform, albeit we would still have to reassess the Switch’s multiplayer performance first before getting too hyped about the concept.
