Nintendo announces new Joy-con colors and battery grip, standalone Switch dock
Tired of the (1 month) old red and blue? Then we’ve got good news for you.
Nintendo announced in their latest Nintendo Direct Live stream that they will be releasing a neon yellow joy-con color option for both the left and the right controllers for the Nintendo Switch. If you’re looking for a reason to pick them up, then it would be because you would be sure that these new joy-cons wouldn’t be affected by the connectivity issues that plagued some of the launch day joy-cons. Nintendo also announced in their livestream that they will be releasing a new battery grip accessory for the joy-con which will add more life to the joy-con’s battery life. It will be using AA batteries.
It is not entirely clear on what the new battery grips are designed to offset given that the joy-con’s, as they are today, last 20 hours each. That is already a substantial amount of time and you can bet that a good portion of the population wouldn’t be playing for 20 hours straight and would always find the time to charge the controllers. That being said, I wouldn’t be surprised if there are a few people who would really benefit from this. It could give a better grip to the Joy-cons, and that’s always a plus.
The new neon yellow joy-cons and the new battery pack will be available starting on June 16, 2017, the same day Nintendo will be launching the new motion-controlled game, Arms.
Nintendo will also start selling the Switch dock as a standalone accessory in “limited quantities” beginning on May 19, 2017. The dock is currently the only official way to connect the Switch to another display, and many users have been looking for ways to pick up additional docks so that they can move their Switch between multiple TVs around their house.
