Valve confirms main event and qualifier dates for The International 2017
Get ready to mark your calendars, boys.
Earlier this month it has been revealed that this year’s The International Dota 2 Championship, despite all of the foreign entry related hoopla, will still be hosted in the USA, specifically in the city of Seattle, Washington. Just in today, Valve finally reveals the dates and the actual venue of their multi-million dollar pro tournament which, to be honest, falls within the dates expected by many considering the schedule of the previous TIs.
This year’s The International Dota 2 Championship will have its main event still take place in the KeyArena, and will have the main event run from Aug 7 to Aug 12, 2017, note that this is presumed to not yet include the group stage playdates, should there be any since Valve usually follows the GSL format for TI.
In addition to the main event playdates, Valve also reveals the playdates for the open and regional qualifiers for TI7 which will take place this coming June 22 to 25, 2017 for the Open Qualifier rounds, and June 26 to 29, 2017 for the main regional group stage rounds.
Given that it will be held in August, teams, particularly the ones which will be competing in the Kiev Major this April, will have roughly 3 months to prepare themselves for Valve, and perhaps the whole of esports’ biggest video game tournament, one that awarded a total of USD 20,770,460 last year, with the champion, Chinese team Wings Gaming, receiving 44% of the total prize pot or USD 9,139,002.
