New Releases and rumored Smartphone models, What to expect from MWC 2017
It’s February again, and that means that it’s almost time for one of the biggest Mobile electronics trade show of the year, Mobile World Congress 2017.
The MWC is the biggest stage for android phone makers and is held in Barcelona, Spain every year. It’s usually where many of the phone makers announce their latest and greatest.
This year, however, due to the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, Samsung has announced that they will not be revealing their new flagship during the show, there are still other phones and gadgets that will likely be announced during the event.
We’ve compiled all the best rumors and news regarding who’s revealing what and what we might see during the event, so read on to find out what might be happening on MWC 2017.
Rumors of a flagship Nokia 8, an bigger brother to the already launched Nokia 6, is making rounds around online circles. It is unclear what specs the speculated phone will have, but if the Nokia 6 is any indication, it will be of very good build quality.
And with the recent success of the recently launched Nokia 6 in the Asian market, it might not be surprising to see Nokia have a global launch of their new phone. I for one am really hoping for the success of the former mobile giant as they hold a very special place in my heart.
LG is ready to bounce back from the commercial failure of the LG G5 with their already confirmed announcement of the new LG G6.
The G6 will be the main attraction of the event as Samsung, the usual headliner of the event, has already announced that they will not be announcing their new flagship device.
LG has already confirmed a couple of features that phone will have namely a 5.7 inch QHD+ display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, heat pipes to dissipate heat, a new AI system, and quality test that are “higher than international standards.” However, it is to be noted that the new device will probably not be running on the Snapdragon 835, but will instead be running on the older but still powerful CPU, the Snapdragon 821. This is mainly due to the fact that Samsung has already taken all the early supplies of the 835 for the Galaxy S8.
It is also very likely that LG will be announcing new android wear watches during the event.
There’s no telling if HTC will actually be announcing anything new during WMC 2017, as in recent years they have shown that they are willing to skirt convention and announce their new devices outside of big events like CES and WMC.
However, Evan Blass, or much more commonly known as EVLeaks has recently leaked an HTC teaser video which reveals a couple of brand new devices including an HTC Vive-branded headset. Though, there’s no way to tell whether or not HTC will be announcing any of these during the event.
Although, HTC has already announced that they will be announcing a new flagship device running on the Snapdragon 835, but it will not be revealed during MWC.
Yes, we’ve already said that Samsung isn’t releasing a new flagship device this February, but that doesn’t mean that they’ll be completely absent from this year’s event. Samsung has already hinted that they will indeed be announcing something new at the event and it’s most likely going to be a successor to the very successful Galaxy Tab S2. Whatever it is, though, it will definitely be something worth looking out for.
It’s also very possible that Samsung will be using MWC something else as there have been rumors of a couple of foldable phone designs circulating the internet. These devices probably won’t be available until late 2017.
The latest rumors suggest that Sony will be having the biggest announcement this year as they are allegedly launching a whopping 5 new phones this MWC, two of which are high end.
Although the Sony XZ was only recently released a mere 2 months ago, Sony will reportedly already have a successor to the phone with the Sony XZ 2. Sony has already proven with their a7 camera line that they are not afraid to launch flagship products within mere months of each other, so this should not come at any surprise.
The new phone is rumored to sport a 5.5 inch 4k screen, run on the Snapdragon 835, and 6gb of RAM. A mid-range phone is also rumored to be announced and will also be boasting a 5.5 inch screen but will instead have a QHD display and will be running on the Snapdragon 653.
Huawei has already confirmed that they do, in fact, have a new flagship device to be announced during the event, and it’s very likely that this device will be the Huawei P10.
Spec rumors of the new device have it listed as having a 5.5 curved QHD screen, a full metal body, a fingerprint scanner, a dual-lens camera, 6gb of ram, and an octa-core Kirin 960 CPU. At this point, the Huawei Watch 2 is with LTE connectivity is almost a lock for being released at the event. And there are rumors that they will also be launching the Huawei MediaTab T3 tablet. Other things they might be announcing is a new Huawei VR headset and new market releases for the Huawei Mate 9 Pro.
Honor, Huawei’s sub-brand, will most likely also have new releases as two other devices from the company have recently passed China’s TENAA.
The Mobile World Congress will be this coming Feb 27 to Mar 2, 2017 in Barcelona, Spain.
