The Rock confirms production of Rampage movie adaptation
Y’all remember Rampage right?
Monster movies full of wanton destruction, and perhaps child friendly hilarity, is bound to welcome a new member of the family as Hollywood star and pro wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson confirms the production of the movie adaptation of the late 80s action arcade title Rampage.
Yup, of all the movies that we think should receive its own movie adaptation, Rampage somehow makes the list of the actual ones, not that we’re complaining, given that we have had giant monster movies like King Kong, and Pacific Rim. The Rock’s reveal came from his Instagram post where he states that he and Warner Bros spent some 6 hours piecing together the script for Rampage and even confirming the start of the shooting period which will be this April 2017.
Spent my Friday night at our Warner Bros offices in a 6hr script session with these rampaging rockstars. Our RAMPAGE (next movie I'll make) writers, producers, director and star (occasionally me). Even though this took us deep into Friday night and we all have families and stuff to do – this kind of meeting is so critical to our movie's success. Everyone's instincts were firing on the highest of levels. My fav moment from this merciless 6hr meeting was when I shared with this group that there's an equity and trust I've built with my audience that they trust me to take them on an epic ride, and always do our best to send them home happy. A very cool moment to see everyone's eyes light and heads start to nod. To win on any level you gotta have teamwork and collaboration and cant thank everyone enough in this room for their energy and focus. You truly helped us move the needle. And Wendy Jane you're Superwoman for your creative brilliance and putting up with all these asshole's dumb guy jokes. Not me of course, I'm a gentleman. 😈 Next stop for me in my research – the Primate division at the Atlanta Zoo (my character's a Primatologist & head of an anti poaching unit in Rwanda). Really informative and educational character to play and project to work on. More to come. Start shooting this APRIL. #RAMPAGE
But will the Rock play as one of the monsters? As large as the Rock can be, his role will actually be a Primatologist, or an animal scientist who studies primates, which maybe related to George, one of the main characters in the game which is, well, a primate, or more specifically, a giant gorilla.
Rampage was first released for the Arcade back in 1986 and was then remade for newer consoles in 1997 as the Rampage World Tour. The game lets players control large monsters as they smash down buildings and survive waves of attacks to advance through different levels.
The Rampage movie adaptation will possibly be a live action film starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and will be directed by Brad Peyton of San Andreas and Ted, the movie is listed for release this coming 2018.
