The League of Legends World Championship 2017 will be hosted in China
Mid-Season Invitational to be hosted in Brazil, Worlds tour to kick off in September 2017.
The pinnacle Esports event for Riot Games’ League of Legends, the World Championship, will come to tour one of the biggest audiences in Esports by country this year as Worlds 2017 chooses China as its host country.
Announced earlier today, Worlds 2017 will kick off in Wuhan, then head on to Guangzhou and Shanghai from Sept 23 to Oct 29, and will ultimately have its championship event at the 90,000-seater Beijing National Stadium in Beijing, China.
In addition toWorlds 2017, Riot also announced that the Mid-Season Invitational event will be coming to Brazil and will run from April 28 to May 21, 2017, with the host cities to include São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
Together with these 2 announcements, Riot also introduces some new changes to how teams can participate in the Mid-Season Invitational and Worlds 2017 by removing the International Wildcard slot and will be giving equal chance to the 13 competitive pro-League of Legends regions.
A total of 24 teams is set to compete at Worlds this year and that includes teams from Japan, CIS, Turkey, Brazil, Latin America, and even South East Asia together with your regular World participants, China, South Korea, North America, and Europe. However, only 16 teams will make it to the worlds Group stages, with 3 seeds from South Korea gaining an easy pass as they are not required to play in the new Play-in stage. A minimum of 2 teams from NA, EU, China and the LMS region, which includes Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, to have reserved slots. A top performing team from the collective “Dark Horse” regions, Brazil, CIS, Japan, Northern and Southern Latin America, South East Asia, and Turkey will also earn a slot for worlds depending on their performance during the Mid-Season Invitational whereas 4 teams from the play-in stage will complete the 16 team Worlds 2017 group stage roster.

The League of Legends World Championships has been deemed to become one of the biggest events in Esports, easily reaching tens of millions of viewers and even surpassing viewership of the NBA finals match last 2015 with the Worlds 2015 finals match between Koo Tigers and SKT hitting 36 million viewers, whereas the Cleveland Cavaliers versus Golden State Warriors final game brawl to sit at 31 million.
