So Sony had a patent application for a new Handheld Device
But no, don’t get your hopes up for Vita 2 yet.
If you thought Sony was all and done on the handheld field after the sad story of the PlayStation Vita, then perhaps you thought wrong as an old patent application resurfaces on the internet which may hint at them actually looking into continuing their journey towards handheld device development.
Spotted by Esuteru.com, the patent’s images, which are said to be originally filed back in 2015, depicts a handheld console, which bears a striking resemblance to the Nintendo Switch, although without the detachable controllers most likely, and a button configuration that’s very similar to the PlayStation Vita.
So are we going to see the Vita 2 soon? Perhaps not likely, as the negative reception of the PS Vita still lurks around and with Nintendo recently unveiling the Switch, it is hardly likely to see Sony announcing anything about a new handheld, however, perhaps when the Switch’s sales are good enough then maybe we can see Sony giving the handheld market another chance. As for now, let’s just remember Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida taking photos at a Nintendo Switch press event.
