A University in Ohio, USA plans to add Esports to its curriculum
Competitive Gaming Academics really is alive and well in the US of A.
Sylvania, Ohio’s Lourdes University will be the next American academic institution to jump into the competitive gamin trend as they plan to offer scholarships to Esports athletes.
According to the report by Cincinnati.com, Lourdes University president Mary Ann Gawelek has been working towards the institution’s Esports program, stating that “In order to participate in eSports you have to have the mental ability and critical thinking skills to do game-playing in general” which then creates a link between competitive gaming and Liberal Arts, which is the university’s main point of study.
The Lourdes University will then move towards recruiting Esports athletes, starting with League of Legends teams and hopefully adding more titles should the program become a success.
