Springloaded’s Netherrealms wins first place at GMGC Manila 2017’s Indie Pitch Arena
Springloaded’s quirky take on destroying the world takes home the bacon at GMGC Manila’s Indie Pitch Arena.
An interesting spinoff on the tower defense genre Springloaded Software’s newest in-development title, Netherrealms manages to bag the gold at the recently held Indie Pitch Arena in the Global Mobile Games Confederate Manila 2017. Presented by Springloaded’s founder himself, James Barnard, the game grants you the role as one of hell’s managers as you send wave after wave of monsters in the goal of unleashing the apocalypse.
As you are the ones taking down defenses rather than building them, the game can be more accurately described as a reverse-tower defense title where you spawn the monsters that take out the enemy’s defense, and ultimately the objective which come in the form of even larger monsters. Perhaps the greatest appeal of the game is its high possibility of strategy variations as you are granted the ability to generate your own unique minions with abilities based on parts that are harvested throughout the levels.
As an example of its monster generator James showed us and the panel over at GMGC Manila 2017 Indie Pitch Arena a minion created using leg, body, and eye parts, which ended up being a monster that walks throughout the field and granting vision as it goes albeit it can never attack for it was only provided with legs for mobility, a body for health and eye for vision with none of its parts granting any form of attack capabilities, of course you can also create attacking minions and other monster varieties using different parts depending on what you need for each level, whether heavy hitters, hard-to-kill tanks, or just plain vision-granting walkers.
A multiplayer mode will also be made available for Netherrealms once it comes out and will put high focus on the title’s monster creation variety which in turn expands the strategy possibilities both for attacking and defending players. Netherrealms is currently under development and is coming to the PC, Android, iOS, Ps4 and Xbox One platforms, a Nintendo Switch release is also being planned should Nintendo open up opportunities to more indie game developers such as Springloaded Software.
