Japan is getting a Final Fantasy XIV inspired TV show.
Japan is getting a live action TV show on the popular MMORPG, but not in the way you think.
When you imagine a TV show based on Final Fantasy, you’d imagine something where the characters are in a magical place with magical characters and special creatures. But according to Kotaku, you’d be wrong.
The new TV show will be called Final Fantasy XIV: Daddy of light, and it will actually be a story of a 60 year old father, who will be played by Ren Osugi, playing the online game with the guidance of his son, who will be played by Yudai Chiba. The show will revolve around the relationship of the two characters while playing the popular MMORPG, Final Fantasy VII.
It was actually inspired by a series of Japanese blogposts by Japanese Final Fantasy player called “The Father of Light” about his 6o year old father playing the game. (Note that the Japanese title 光のお父さん or “Hikari no Otousan” is the same for the blog and the TV show. The official English translations are slightly different.)
The TV drama will use both live action scenes and in-game scenes when it launches in April, so fans will still be able to get their Chocobo fix.
