Prototype for new Overwatch hero already in the works, new maps also under development and on its way for 2017
Looks like Terry Crews’ recent visit to Blizzard really meant something.
We may just be a month after having a new hero for Overwatch but Blizzard is already cooking things up for next year as the prototype for another new hero is already in the works with more to arrive next year.
Revealed by Jeffrey Kaplan, one of Blizzard’s designers for Overwatch in their Developer update video, Kaplan states that they are already “working on multiple new heroes” with one hero already being prioritized for being very “promising” and is now moving through Overwatch’s art pipeline.
Prior to this mini reveal, Overwatch fans have already speculated the next new hero after Sombra, which was finally revealed in BlizzCon 2016 last November after a very tiring cat-and-mouse ARG, called Doomfist which was teased in-game through a poster in Numbani, one of Overwatch’s maps.
Adding to the rumor mill is Expendables actor, Terry Crews recent visit to the Blizzard office, this after expressing his interest to voice Doomfist, if he truly is to become an Overwatch character.
New Maps and Seasonal Events
Apart from new heroes, the developer update also reveals plans of new maps for Overwatch and as well as Seasonal events with some we assume to happen as early as Q1 of 2016, starting perhaps with the Chinese New Year. In addition to maps and events, Kaplan also announced that Blizzard is planning to up the ante of voice communication by adding voice lines on the chat wheel and have players to automatically join team chats rather than being limited to party chat if they are in a party.
Overwatch is Blizzard’s newest IP and has become a bonafide video game success, hitting the 20-million player mark in less than a year after its release. The game is currently available for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One platforms and is well on its way to also becoming a hit in the field of Esports.
