The zombie shooter with explosions and huge monster worms will be coming to the Oculus store soon.

Horror games and shooters have taken up a significant chunk of VR experiences ever since its inception, especially among indie devs who now find it easier to play with human emotions such as fear and upping the ante of horror titles by making it feel like you are actually inside the game scenario, with the help of VR gear of course. Come Apokalyptein, a combination of both the Horror and Shooter VR experience and an amalgamation of, as developer Dark FX Studios describes, the internet’s top choices when it comes to apocalypse-themed movies which include Children of Men, I am Legend, and Zombieland.

Still a working progress, Dark FX Studios’ preview demo shows the player shooting at neon-red colored humanoids which would seem to be the Zombies and a mini-boss fight involving what looks like one of those alien worm-like bugs from Starship Troopers and random explosions which light up parts of your map and temporarily increasing your view range. Dark FX Studios describes their design approach as a combination of “3D and 2D elements in a stylized post-apocalyptic setting”.

It’s still in Beta but is there anything to complain? Well, the text are in Comic Sans and there looks to be some problem with long range targeting, although we’re not sure if it’s due to mechanics such as weapon recoil, rifling twist, gravity, the angle in which you shoot or some in-game mechanic that dictates the bullet path.

Apokalyptein will be set for the Oculus Rift and will arrive in the Oculus Store sometime soon.
