The first ever Esports College Arena is soon to open in USA
The future of intercollegiate competition will be filled with Computers and Pro players.
Electronic Sports, particularly at a college level, has seen some great growth in the West with some Universities, Colleges and other educational institutions already offering “Esports Scholarships” and even Inter-school Conferences and Competitons such as PAC-12’s announcement back in May 2016.
Now, this looks to be taken up a notch as the University of California – Irvine reveals that they are soon opening the first ever Esports College Arena in the United States of America that will mainly serve as a home to its intercollegiate pro gaming athletes.
Developed together with iBUYPOWER, UCI’s Esports Arena will have a total area of 3,500 Square Feet (~325 Sqm) and will contain 80 PC units, plus web broadcast and viewing areas. Apart from being used as South California’s main hub for college Esports, UCI also adds that other academic programs will also be held in their gaming facility, as well as special events that may require the use of multiple PCs.
University of College – Irvine is also one of the few academic institutions to offer out “Esports Scholarships” which currently benefit its Pro League of Legends players. Their new competitive gaming facility will set to open this coming Fall 2016, and, together with a partnership with Riot Games, will look to offer a special League of Legends bonus to those who wish to play League at their Esports Arena.
