The story of upsets and shattered predictions continue in Day 1 of the Main Event.
The International Dota 2 Championships 2016 continues to churn out amazing stories from its participants as day 1 concludes with some of the most earth-shattering upsets in pro Dota 2 history. The first match between MVP Phoenix, and the 2-time Major winner OG Dota 2 may have been expected to be a close fight in favor of OG but the Koreans proved that they are the new overlords by sending the European team to the Lower Bracket with a 2-1 finish with highlight plays such as the Game 1 casino draft by MVP which featured Faceless Void (MP), Phantom Assassin (QO) and Spiritbreaker (DuBu), Miracle-‘s 17-2 finish on Outworld Devourer on game 2 and Forev‘s Axe on Game 3.
While not totally an upset, the highly debated winner predcition of the Digital Chaos versus Wings Gaming series in the upper bracket will finally put to rest as Wings scores 2-1 against the North Americans. The chaotic playstyle of Wings once again prove to be too much to handle even for a team that has chaos in their name as the Chinese pull through, and secure themselves a quarterfinals advance, facing MVP for the next round.
An exciting series of plays also took place in the lower bracket today as TNC Pro Team Dota 2 proves once more that they are the bane of the Chinese teams defeating ViCi Gaming Reborn in the best of 1 eliminations. The Filipino team that has ended 5th place in Group A during the Groupstages has ended VG Reborn‘s struggle after a 36 minute matchup with Raven leading the team 11-1 on his Terrorblade. Fellow South East Asian team Fnatic Dota 2 will also keep their TI hopes alive after eliminating Synderen’s Escape Gaming, while fan favorites Team Secret and Natus Vincere will be among those who will be eliminated of the tournament on Day 1 after being defeated by LGD Gaming and Team Liquid respectively.
