Round 1 of the Lower Brackets is going into play next week in the The International 2016 Main Event, while highly contested Best of 1 battles are to be expected, the rise of new names and the fall of old ones are also anticipated in this high stakes tournament.

The Best of 1s for any premiere event is always a test of which team has the better cheese and can generate grace under pressure especially for TI6. Considered as the last chance for any team to go big or go home, stories of titan killers are often the tale of the TI Lower Bracket first round, which has seen much casualty, from both new aspirants and tournament veterans.

Main Event Lower Bracket Round 1 Matchup Predictions

TNC Pro Team Dota 2 Versus
Best of 3
ViCi Gaming Reborn

The Filipino team TNC Pro Team Dota 2has proven that they are the very bane of Chinese teams all through the course of the TI Groupstages, scoring wins against both LGD Gaming (2-0) and Wings (2-0) and continues to show that they are not a team to be taken lightly after their lenghty groupstage game 1 against Evil Geniuses. One the other hand ViCi Gaming Reborn, with the absence of Yang after the Visa debacle, is clearly fighting for dear life at the groupstage, with the team’s only series win being the series against Team Liquid (2-0) and while the team may not be the most break-out team to come out of Chinese borders, they have proved from time to time that they are able to put up a fight citing their run at the Starladder i-League Invitational and the Manila Major where they defeated teams like OG, EG and DC. The clear lack of preparation due to the sudden change in lineup to compensate for Yang’s Visa trouble has been the very issue with ViCi Gaming Reborn as the team did also arrive in Seattle on the end day of July giving them at least 2 days to review their lineup, catch up to scrims and finalize preparations going in to the groupstage. Sad to say, and not just as a way to support the Filipino team, but ViCi Gaming Reborn‘s TI journey may just end right here.

Match Winner Prediction:  TNC Pro Team

Team Secret Versus
Best of 3
LGD Gaming

Secret is a team that has suffered greatly from numerous lackluster performance which contradict their initial goal of becoming a team of superstars that can pretty much sustain themselves through tournament winnings without sponsors. Going downhill since the Shanghai Major and peppered with controversy after questionable roster movement decisions such as replacing w33 with Arteezy post Shanghai Major and the mid-Manila Major roster trade which involved letting go of Universe in exchange for Bulba, the team was only able to finish 6th in the TI6 Groupstages, with 2 series wins against VG Reborn (2-0) and Liquid (2-0). LGD Gaming will also have their share of the groupstage trouble albeit they are able to handle their western opponents pretty well tieing their series matches against OG (1-1), Evil Geniuses (1-1) and Alliance (1-1).

Match Winner Prediction:  LGD Gaming
Heroes to look out for:

Team Secret LGD Gaming

Fnatic Dota Versus
Best of 3
Escape Gaming

While Escape Gaming has had their taste of South East Asian Dota 2 through their win against Execration in the Wildcard rounds, they may find Fnatic a bit different to handle as the Malaysian squad is consistently compared and likened to other teams in the SEA region such as TNC, Mineski and MVP Phoenix when it comes to caliber. Going into the main with 2-12 after tieing their series against Alliance (1-1) and Natus Vincere (1-1), Escape‘s final chance to advance further into TI6 will be to defeat Fnatic, a team that has completely won only 2 series, Secret (2-0) and VG Reborn (2-0), in Group B albeit, still able to recover from their initial slump rising from 8th to 5th. While Fnatic has had their fair share of western competition being one of the very few South East Asian teams that are almost always able to secure a spot at different international tournaments, trouble has found its way on the team here at TI as they only end 5th place in a group where they are expected to rise up from considering their stellar performances in tournaments such as Starladder i-League, Manila Major and ESL One Manila 2016.

Match Winner Prediction:  Fnatic Dota
Heroes to look out for:

Fnatic Dota Escape Gaming

Natus Vincere Versus
Best of 3
Team Liquid

Team Liquid has had their hands around Natus Vincere‘s throat for quite a few times this year with Kuroky‘s squad always finding themselves at a win against Dendi and co. That premise will be tested again in the Best of 1 eliminations of the TI6 Main Event Lower Brackets where both teams will face each other, with some of its players having long history of playing both with and against each other. Na’Vi hails from Group A’s 6th spot, having won against LGD (2-0) and Wings Gaming (2-0), whereas Liquid stands at the 7th place of Group B, having only won their series against Fnatic (2-0). While Natus Vincere may have had the higher rank when groupstage finishes are compared, Team Liquid has a lot more to bring to the table with their 2nd place finishes in the Shanghai Major, ESL One Manila and the Manila Major and as well as their 1st place win at EPICENTER: Moscow.

Match Winner Prediction:  Team Liquid
Heroes to look out for:

Natus Vincere Team Liquid
